The Personal Inquiry project has just completed a very successful participatory design workshop with Oakgrove School, asking students to imagine what would make an exciting geography investigation.
Fifteen students and their teachers met with Open University members of the Personal Inquiry project, and project partners David Crellin from Sciencescope and Henk van Aswegen from Milton Keynes Discovery Centre to generate ideas for future technology supported geography projects. The Year 8 and 9 students discussed their previous school investigations and imagined future investigations related to the geographies of fashion, tourism, music and crime. Students developed plans for their new investigations including proposed technologies to support their work.
The sketches, research questions and plans developed by the students will feed into future collaborations between Oakgrove School and the Personal Inquiry project. The geography teachers suggested the students might well have helped develop next year’s geography curriculum!
