One of China’s most prominent universities, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has featured KMi’s Fridolin Wild in a guest lecture, giving him the opportunity to present his new theory on how meaning is created and how machines can exploit this algorithmically.
The new technique is called meaningful interaction analysis (MIA) and combines the semantic vector mathemagics of latent semantic analysis (LSA) with the analytical instruments of a social network analysis (SNA).
The theory and its application exploit the given that humans tend to build professional language communities of shared understanding: this allows in return to automatically extract those semantic structures from a large number of written texts, that are characteristic of the community investigated.
