KMi-ers were very much in evidence at the 10th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC 2011), which took place in Bonn, Germany on 23-27 October 2011. ISWC is the major international forum for research on the Semantic Web and the strong presence from KMi (13 members of the lab attended the conference) confirmed the lab’s reputation as a leading international research centre in the area. In particular, two papers authored by KMi-ers were presented in the highly competitive research track (19% acceptance rate): "Modelling and Analysis of User Behaviour in Online Communities" by Sofia Angeletou, Matthew Rowe and Harith Alani and "A Novel Approach to Visualizing and Navigating Ontologies" by Enrico Motta, Paul Mulholland, Silvio Peroni, Mathieu D’Aquin, Jose Manuel Gomez-Perez, Victor Mendez and Fouad Zablith. KMi was also present in the In-Use track, where Miriam Fernandez presented a paper entitled "Linking Data Across Universities: an integrated video lectures dataset", authored by Miriam Fernandez, Mathieu d’Aquin and Enrico Motta. There were also several contributions to workshops, including the paper "Semantic Technologies to Support the User-Centric Analysis of Activity Data", by Mathieu D’Aquin, Salman Elahi and Enrico Motta, which was presented at the "Social Data on the Web" (SDoW) workshop; the paper "Consuming Linked Data within a Large Educational Organisation" by Fouad Zablith, Mathieu d’Aquin, Stuart Brown and Liam Green-Hughes, presented at the Second International Workshop on Consuming Linked Data; the paper "Enabling Lightweight Semantic Sensor Networks on Android Devices", by Mathieu D’Aquin, Andriy Nikolov and Enrico Motta, presented at the Semantic Sensor Network" workshop; and the paper "An Event-Based Approach to Describing and Understanding Museum Narratives", by Paul Mulholland, Annika Wolff, Trevor Collins, and Zdenek Zdrahal. Finally, KMi-ers were also very much in evidence in the poster and demo sessions. Demos included "Building SPARQL-Enabled Applications with Android Devices", by Mathieu d’Aquin, Andriy Nikolov and Enrico Motta, and "Latest Developments in KC-Viz", by Enrico Motta, Silvio Peroni, and Mathieu d’Aquin. Both these demos made it into the final 3-papers shortlist for the best demo award. A KMi entry was also shortlisted for the best poster award: "Semantic smoothing for Twitter Sentiment Analysis", by Hassan Saif, Yulan He and Harith Alani. In addition to these contributions, KMi members were also in evidence in a variety of other events staged at the conference, as well as being part of various organizational committees. In sum, ISWC turned out to be yet another successful event for KMi, confirming the high standing of the lab in the Semantic Web area.
