Keynote at the European Conference on Service Oriented and Cloud Computing

Another week, another Keynote. On this occasion at the first European Conference on Service Oriented and Cloud Computing (ESOCC). This conference was formed last year from the long running European Conference on Web Services (ECOWS) with the (obvious) extension to Cloud Computing.  In addition to KMi’s John Domingue, the conference Keynotes included Bryan Stephenson from HP labs in the US and Paolo Traverso of FBK-ICT in Italy.

The talk titled “Linked Services for the Web of Data” gave an overview of the results from number of KMi projects including SOA4All, NoTube, VPH Share and PlanetData. Also, the Keynote covered new work including: Linked Data representations of SAP’s Unified Service Description Language which form a corner-stone of the emerging Internet of Services, the new EU project Compose which will create a service marketplace integrated with the Internet of Things, and FuturICT a large initiative which aims to develop a new paradigm for ICT based on social sciences to help spot large threats to society. The FuturICT platform is formed from the Planetary Nervous System, combining data from global sensors and mobile and social networking systems, the Living Earth Simulator where large scale simulations of behaviour can be modelled and the Global Participatory Platform enabling engagement with the produced data and models.

The conference was hosted in Bertinoro at a fortress built by the Counts of Bertinoro in the first decades of the tenth century and where Dante is said to have visited.
