Learning Analytics and Educational Networked Improvement Communities

Prof. Tony Bryk (President, Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching) is a leading thinker on the improvement of schooling systems. He spent last week at University of Bristol, where I am a visiting fellow, running a hands-on workshop and giving a public lecture. Two full days gave us the opportunity to explore in some depth the intersection of our research programmes.

Bryk has thought deeply about the concept of Networked Improvement Communities as a collective intelligence approach to building knowledge, a concept first proposed by personal and collaborative computing pioneer Doug Engelbart, whose work has been an inspiration for me.

Following Bryk’s events, and a workshop I ran on Educational-NICs and technology, I’ve now posted my reflections on the intersection of NICs with Learning Analytics.
