First Melete Scholarships for KMi Research Students Awarded

KMi is delighted to announce PhD Research Students Shuang Ao and Joseph Kwarteng are the first-ever recipients of the prestigious Melete Scholarships. The Melete Scholarship will provide Shuang and Joseph with the opportunity to have the extra financial freedom to realise their talent through their project proposals

Melete was founded in 2019 by John & Kitty Chisholm. The scheme’s mission is to seek out and support talented PhD students as they become the next generation of visionary innovators driven to create significant societal impact.

Shuang’s project is focused on a multi-Sensory Storybook for Blind Children, she commented ‘It is a great encouragement for my research, which allows me to look at my research practically. Also, it will enable me to discover my capabilities in a way I can never imagine!’

Joseph is using the scholarship to further his research on Intersectional Hate Detection: A Case of Misogynoir, he commented ‘I am honoured to have received this scholarship. I am grateful to the Melete Foundation and Sir John and Lady Kitty for providing this funding to support PhD researchers at  KMi to pursue their dreams and ideas to improve the world.’

KMi Director John Domingue mentioned Sir John and Lady Kitty Chisholm were very impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit and passion of both Shuang and Joseph, and by their amazing ideas.
