CRC PhD Student conference held at KMi

The annual CRC PhD Student conference was held at KMi on Thursday June 18th and Friday June 19th. 28 students from the Centre for Computing and KMi, both full time and part time and at various stages in their research gave short presentations describing their progress to supervisors and interested members of staff. The talks were given in parallel sessions run in the podium and media lab and were recorded to enable students to discuss their presentations later with their supervision team. A variety of topics were covered including software engineering, natural language processing, distance education technology, social computing and multimedia information retrieval. Zdenek Zdrahal gave a plenary session and a panel of other OU staff came along on Friday to discuss problem solving. Students also had the opportunity to socialise with each other and discuss their research one-on-one in a poster session in the podium.
