KMi gathered yesterday to celebrate Prashant Khare’s successful defence of his PhD thesis, Identifying and Processing Crisis Information from Social Media.
The exam panel was successfully convened, despite severe weather from Storm Ciara which caused disruption to the examiners’ travel plans. Ironically, Prashant’s work is focused on processing crisis information, which is highly topical given the increase in all kinds of natural and man-made crises.
The viva went on for nearly two hours, during which time the examiners posed various questions to Prashant, which he answered eloquently and gave a strong defence to his work and thesis. Prashant’s work has been published at top conferences in the domain, as well as at the high impact IEEE Intelligent Systems journal.
Parshant was supervised internally by Prof Harith Alani, Dr Gregoire Burel. The exam panel was chaired by Dr Allan Third (OU), and consisted of Dr Danica Vukadinovic Greetham (OU) and Professor Pete Burnpa from Cardiff University.
We wish Dr Khare every success for the future in his academic career.
