… go on with vigour and to hope for the best

Teresa Connolly, of KMi & SCORE Fellow, recently delivered a workshop at the 18th International ALT conference in the University of Leeds, 6-8th September: “Enhancing synergies between technologists, learning support specialists and academics utilizing Open Educational Resources (OER)” along with SCORE Fellows Alannah Fitzgerald (Durham) and Jane Gay (Kingston) in association with Gabriel Reedy (Kings College, London) and Tom Browne (Exeter). The workshop was well attended having been designed to equip learning technologists with strategies for collaborating with academics and learning support professionals in the adoption and adaptation of OER for learning and teaching.

ALT presented the idea that: In 2011, education systems throughout the world are attempting to do more, better, and often with less. As the political, economic, social, agency and technological landscapes change, it is tempting for people in the learning technology community simply to “go on with vigour, hoping for the best” quoting Pitt the Younger, 1791, speaking about the disruptive effects of the French Revolution on trade and on the British position generally.
