The annual General Assembly of the ROLE (Responsive Open Learning Environments) project took place last week in Shanghai. The event was hosted by the School of Continuing Education at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The attendees were toured to the distant education facilities of the SJTU and had a chance to talk with students and teachers about teaching methods and learning experiences in the Chinese culture.
KMi was represented by Alexander Mikroyannidis, who is leading the work undertaken by the ROLE test-beds. The ROLE test-beds provide the platforms for trying out and evaluating ROLE learning technologies in a variety of settings, including formal education, informal e-learning, as well as learning in the workplace.
The discussions and decisions of the General Assembly were directed towards shaping the ROLE strategy for its 3rd year. This will happen through a series of mini-projects targeting the development and evaluation of learning technologies, as well as increasing outreach to communities of developers, researchers, and users.
